This is an everygreen recipe and an all time favorite. It is very simple to make as the only preparation required is for the gravy. The peas (matar) can come straight from the supermarket. Buy a packet of frozen green peas and put the peas in water for 10 minutes prior to use. The paneer (cottage cheese) is also available round the year. You can either use a home made version or simply, purchase it.

Servings – 4 people
Ingredients
Peas (Matar) 250 gms
Paneer 100 gms
2 onions
4 tomatoes
a piece of ginger
4-5 cloves of garlic
Tejpatta (curry leave)
4 long (clove)
1 piece cinnamon
1 badi ilaichi
1 green chilli
Oil 2 tblsp
Zeera 1 tblsp
Hing one pinch
Haldi 1 tblsp
Salt according to taste
Red chilli powder according to taste
Dhaniya powder 2 tblsp
Garam masala 2 tsp
Water 3 cups
Grind the tomatoes, onions, garlic, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, badi ilaichi and green chilli in a mixer. to make gravy masala. Cut the paneer into small cubes and set aside. Heat oil in a cooker and put zeera and hing ka tadka in it. Add tejpatta. Add the gravy masala to it and stir till the masala comes off the cooker. Add haldi, dhaniya, red chilli powder, salt, peas and paneer and stir. Add water and stir again. Put the lid on the cooker with the whistle and put it on high flame. Wait for one whistle and put the cooker on low flame for 10 minutes. Switch off the gas supply and let the steam escape from the cooker completely before opening it. Add garam masala and stir.
